Memphis, Egypt

Memphis was the capital of the Old Kingdom from its foundation around 3100 BC until around 1300 BC.

The ruins are located about 19 km (12 mi.) south of Cairo on the West Bank of the Nile.

The Step Pyramid (also called Pyramid of Djoser) was ordered built by Djoser (2630 - 2611 BC). It was originally reached 62m high and was covered by polished white limestone.
